Silicon Carbide Heating Element Types Explained for Furnace Replacement

Search results for silicon carbide heating elements often show many names at once: rods, dumbbell elements, U type elements, W type elements, spiral elements and Globar-style replacement terms. For a furnace buyer, the useful question is simple: which shape fits the chamber and wiring?

This guide explains common SiC heating element types from a replacement and RFQ perspective. It is written for buyers who need to identify an old element before contacting a supplier.

Start from the installed shape

Element typeHow buyers usually recognize itRFQ notes
DB typeDumbbell shape with different hot-zone and cold-end diametersSend hot zone diameter, cold end diameter, HZ, CZ, OL and resistance if available.
ED typeEqual-diameter straight rodUseful for many tunnel kiln and roller kiln replacement discussions.
U typeTwo legs connected at one endConfirm leg center distance, bridge shape, HZ, CZ and terminal side.
W typeMulti-leg or three-phase shaped elementConfirm phase layout, leg spacing and resistance balance.
SG typeSingle spiral heating sectionOften reviewed when higher resistance or compact heating layout is needed.
SGR typeDouble spiral heating sectionUseful for special spiral layouts; final selection needs drawing or sample data.

Hot zone and cold end are not optional details

The hot zone should sit inside the heating chamber. The cold ends should pass through the furnace wall and reach the terminal area. If a buyer only sends total length, the replacement element may heat the wrong zone or leave terminals too close to the furnace wall.

For straight rod replacement, compare the DB type silicon carbide heating element and ED type SiC heating element pages. For one-side wiring, review U type SiC heater rods and W type SiC heating elements.

Electrical review after shape identification

SiC heating elements age during service, and resistance increases over time. For replacement, collect voltage, current, power, resistance and connection method when available. Series groups need closer matching than parallel groups, and a long-aged group may need full group replacement instead of one new rod.

Industry terms buyers may see in SERP results

Some search results use brand or product-family names such as Globar or Starbar. These terms may help a buyer find the general material family, but they do not replace the actual specification. The supplier still needs dimensions, resistance, furnace condition, quantity and photos or drawings.

FAQ

Which SiC heating element type should a buyer identify first?

Identify the installed shape first: straight, DB, ED, U, W, SG, SGR or another custom shape. Dimensions and electrical data should be checked after the shape is clear.

Why are hot zone and cold end names important?

The hot zone is the active heating area inside the chamber, while cold ends carry current through the wall and terminal area with less heat generation.

When are spiral SiC elements reviewed?

SG and SGR spiral elements may be reviewed for compact heating zones, higher resistance needs or special layouts where a plain straight rod is not suitable.

For replacement review, send the type, dimensions and furnace data through the RFQ form or email info@hnlasting.com.
